Brownfield Redevelopment Cambridge
Our client purchased a tight city centre site, containing a poorly altered and maintained Victorian end of terrace house together with a large disused car workshop, for residential redevelopment.
We obtained Planning permission for conversion of the existing house into two high quality flats. The conversion included upgrading the fabric to current insulation standards, and a glazed roof to the new external staircase to the first floor flat was an opportunity for adding some design delight!
Permission was also obtained for a contemporary style 2-storey zinc roofed cedar-clad house, with a living green wall on the west boundary. The Planning requirement was that the house had to fit within the envelope height of the previous workshop and also had to avoid windows on three elevations – this necessitated a very creative approach with the living green screen wall, resulting in a light and spacious layout.
